American Powertrain’s G-body Hydramax Makes Manual Shifting Easy

The complete kit makes adding a clutch to your G-body an easy install.

If you own a ‘78 to ‘88 G-body, you’ve certainly thought about what it would be like to add a manual transmission. Rowing your own gears adds a great level of enjoyment, but there is a large issue plaguing the upgrade – the availability of clutch linkage. That concern is no longer relevant, as American Powertrain has solved the issue.

It is well known the stock G-body firewall is not strong enough to support a typical hydraulic clutch conversion, and if you thought adding a hydraulic clutch was an easy upgrade, often times, it does not have the proper geometry for a universal-type fitment. American Powertrain’s Hydramax utilizes the stock brake master cylinder mounting location to locate the clutch master cylinder support bracket, ensuring a strong mounting location. The G-body bracket is laser-cut, powdercoated, and uses a tried-and-true Wilwood-sourced 3/4-inch bore clutch master for added reliability and easy mounting.

The Hydramax Clutch Kit includes the Hydramax hydraulic release bearing for use with a T5, TKO, T-56, or Magnum six-speed gear box, and works with the American Powertrain G-body clutch pedal set for a complete manual-clutch conversion.  Only minimal cutting is required to enlarge the cruise control hole to fit the clutch rod.
