General Motors designed their ’55-’57 Chevys and ’68-’72 A-bodies to be comfortable cruisers. For us performance-minded enthusiasts, “comfort” most of the time directly translates to not being able to take a corner or even launch like we want to.
While these cars utilize a body-on-frame setup, they still have quite a bit of chassis flex. Thankfully, modern-day parts have given us the opportunity to not only make these cars perform as great they did the day they rolled off the lot, but even better.
Summit just released brand new Frame Brace Kits that are proven to improve traction and ride quality, as well as tighten up the car’s handling. They tie the entire chassis together into a much more rigid structure – similar to that of a full custom frame, but at a fraction of a “full custom” hefty price tag.
The 1955-1957 Chevy kits feature welded tubular side rails, adjustable transmission crossmembers, factory body mounting locations, and bolt-on motor mount frame stands designed for use with Chevy small block, big block, and LS engines. Unlike many frame braces, the included rear crossmember allows the use of a full x-pipe dual exhaust.
The A-body kits also feature fully welded tubular side rails and an adjustable transmission crossmember – but also come along with laser-cut boxing plates, stainless-steel hardware, and body mount reinforcement plates specifically designed for Energy Suspension bushings.
