SEMA To Propose Exhaust “Fix-It” Ticket In California

As soon as it was announced, California’s new exhaust law took the internet by storm. Headquartered in California ourselves, we were especially affected by the news–and were quick to jump and try to help out other enthusiasts deal with it as well. You already know how we feel about this but, with the bad wrap the community has at this point (along with all the issues going on with the EPA and CARB) it’s scary for our passion to be controlled like this. It’s always been about the freedom to customize your build and, if you want an obnoxiously loud ride, then so be it!

…Okay, rant over.

For a while there, for us automotive enthusiasts, every single piece of social media was flooded with angry comments about this and, soon after, petitions to repeal this law that was originally stated to be a non-correctable $1,000 fine. The one petition online spread like wildfire–racking up upwards of over a hundred thousand signatures in just a short couple of days.

But, it seems SEMA is coming to the rescue yet again.

Their “Action Network” a.k.a. SAN, has brought legislation (A.B. 390) to light to repeal the section of the law (AB 1924) that refers to how the citations are issued for exhaust noise violations in the state of California. Being referred to the Assembly Committee on Transportation to be heard later this week, on March 25th, A.B. 390 would re-institute the law enforcement’s discretion to issue “fix-it” tickets.

While it is said to not necessarily fix this issue, especially when pertaining to sound ordinances, it’s a step in the right direction. And, for that, we’re stoked. We’ll keep you posted as this story develops…Let us know what you think the outcome will be in the comment section below.
