SEMA 2020: OPGI Seals The Deal With Repro ’69-72 GM Weatherstripping

At this stage of the restoration game, door seals play a critical role in your project’s rebuild. Original Parts Group Incorporated (OPGI), fills the bill for 1969-72 Chevelle, Cutlass, Skylark, Monte Carlo, and Grand Prix coupe and convertible models.

While not the sexiest part in the restoration process – headliners and carpets tend to get the attention – there is nothing more comforting than a solid door seal. Door rattle, wobble, and wind noise is part of the aging process of a vintage car but can be easily fixed by replacing worn door seals.

OPGI has nailed it for 1969-1972 GM B-body coupes and convertibles with the Soffseal reproductions. These are identical reproductions of the original GM weatherstripping used in these models. The extruded rubber section features original GM-style fasteners which ensure easy installation.

The most difficult part of the entire installation is removing the old seal – if it is still there at all. Fortunately, the factory tended to use gasket sealer sparingly, applying a small bead at each end at the top of the door.

The entire process, from removal and cleanup to finished installation should take less than two hours. It is recommended to use 3M adhesive at the top of the gasket to hold the seal in place and get that tight, secure fit.

These seals (Part# AMS5022) are vehicle specific:

  • Buick Skylark 1969-72
  • Chevrolet Chevelle 1969-72
  • Chevrolet Monte Carlo 1970-72
  • Oldsmobile Cutlass 1969-72
  • Pontiac Grand Prix 1969-72
