Video: The DNA Of Aldan American Coilover Brackets

It sounds pretty simple, a CNC cut bracket for coilover shocks. However… there is a lot more to these simple-looking devices. Shock brackets have come a long way from the stock OE stamped steel versions of yesterday. We went to Aldan American to find out how much things have changed.

Most streetcar enthusiasts are keenly aware of coilover shocks and what they can add to handling and performance. These shock kits add a high degree of adjustability to the geometry of a car. As such, there are additional requirements for the mounting of these shock kits to compensate for steering geometry, weight loading, and other factors. Converting a vehicle to coilovers or adjustable shocks often require new chassis components like mounting brackets.

Here’s where the often overlooked coilover brackets come into play. Using the CNC process allows Aldan American to control the quality of all the subparts of their kits, including the coilover brackets. According to Aldan’s Garrett Harmola, “Having our sub-components made here in the U.S.A, in house and locally whenever possible, helps us maintain quality.”

CNC laser cutting and slotting are the basis for a precise component. Add in TIG welding and these brackets are strong enough to handle whatever you throw at them.

“Quality sub-parts allows our products to withstand high horsepower applications and non-traditional vehicles over longer periods of time,” he added. After all, quality driving is what we are all after, whether it is putting power to the ground, lowering the ride, or anti-dive in performance applications.

Garrett recommends looking for CNC laser cut brackets and suspension components when updating your suspension. It’s no secret that CNC laser cuts are precise and do not vary like the old machine cutting tools of the 1960s did. Aldan also TIG welds their brackets for strength.

The bottom mount also shows the CNC laser cut and slotting process.

Finally, brackets must be protected because they live in a harsh environment. In the U.S., regulations have been placed on coatings and platings to use non-toxic coatings to help safeguard the environment. Aldan American uses the same coaters and platers that perform work on military and aerospace projects. The quality control and coating processes are the same.
