Get Fired Up With The Power Products Pro Black Distributor Series

Ignition issues are not something you want to try and solve at the track — the best course of action is to have the right parts selected before you even pull the racecar out of the trailer. An ignition system that still uses a distributor needs a powerful unit to kick off the combustion processes inside each cylinder. If you don’t have the right distributor, your engine’s performance will suffer and it will be hard to tune.

When your engine is running, your distributor has to be function, so you need to make sure the one you select uses high-quality parts so it lasts. The distributor’s housing should be made of high-grade aluminum; its gears made from a good hardened steel, and the terminals of brass so they can transfer plenty of power. A distributor with an adjustable advance is something you also want to assist with tuning the engine.

A very intense amount of spark is what you want to see from a high-performance distributor. That spark is what dictates how much timing you can run, and how well it will light off the fuel inside the cylinder. Engines with higher compression ratios and that use race gas will benefit from having a distributor that can provide the required spark to start the combustion process.

The Power Products Pro Black series of distributors is a great choice for racing engines. Brian Adix from Competition Products explains why these distributors work well in racing applications.

“The Pro Black distributors can generate up to 65,000 volts — that’s plenty of spark for most high-performance engines. These distributors come with adjustable mechanical and vacuum advance so they can be precisely tuned.  The Pro Black distributors will work with most CDI ignition boxes on the market too.”
