When the big three first started designing trucks, no one ever thought these early models would last as long as they have. Let’s face it, they were utilitarian vehicles that were never designed to be luxurious or last forever. They are trucks, and as such, were designed to haul things. To that end, whatever was being hauled was usually thrown into the truck’s bed without any consideration given to the damage it would cause. Over time, bed floors, sides, and tailgates ultimately got severely damaged.
If you are restoring one of these classic 1967 through ’72 Chevy or GMC haulers, that means dealing with that damage and/or rust. But thanks to United Pacific Industries (UPI), completing your build is much easier than ever before. UPI has been offering replacement panels and parts for Chevy trucks for quite a while. We recently learned they just released much-needed, officially licensed tailgates that even have the proper Chevrolet or GMC script.
Each gate is made from die-stamped 16-gauge steel and is finished with a black protective coating to keep the steel rust-free. The pocket for the latch handle is precision cut with mounting holes. You will even find welded nuts on each side for latch mounting. All gates include linkage posts and trunnion pockets. Finally, you can even order your new tailgate without the lettering if you’re looking to create a smooth hot rod.
