The annual Corvettes at Carlisle show is a yearly must-see event for the Corvette faithful. While it isn’t scheduled to happen until August 24-26, 2023, the folks at Carlisle Events are already deep into planning all the fun and festivities. There is always a broad list of displays available for like-minded individuals to enjoy during each Carlisle event, and this year continues that tradition, celebrating all the many generations of Corvettes.
The Corvette American Flag
One of the highlights for many enthusiasts is participating in the patriotic Corvette American Flag display, with dozens of red, white, blue, and silver Corvettes staged to replicate the American flag on the Carlisle fairgrounds. The flag build will be happening on Saturday, August 25th, from mid-morning through mid-afternoon. Anyone interested in participating in the flag display must first register for the Fun Field. Once registered, the Corvettes at Carlisle web page has a specific application for those wanting to participate in the flag display.
Wil Cooksey Edition Z06
Wil Cooksey’s influence on the Corvette is almost as large as his stature. Wilmer Cooksey Jr. served as Corvette Plant Manager from February 1993 until his retirement in March 2008. When he retired, Chevrolet honored his years of service by issuing the Wil Cooksey Edition Z06 Corvette. The car was only available in Crystal Red Tintcoat with an optional 3LZ Titanium two-tone leather-wrapped interior, and Mr. Cooksey personally autographed each Corvette.
Carlisle Events will honor the man and his namesake Corvettes with a special display dedicated to these amazing machines. When you sign up for the event on Carlisle Events’ website, you can choose “Wil Cooksey Corvette” as an available club option from the drop-down menu. Registrants who sign up with that option by July 10th will be part of this special reunion and receive a special gift.
50 Years – 1973 Corvettes
Each year, Carlisle recognizes Corvettes celebrating their Golden Anniversary. This year, dozens of 1973 Corvettes will enjoy central parking under a tent in the middle of the Fun Field. Owners of 1973 Corvettes are encouraged to choose the 50th Anniversary Registry club option when registering for this year’s event.
Chip’s Choice – 100 Years of LeMans
Since it first debuted on the famed French racetrack back in the 60s, Corvette’s “never give up” attitude has endeared it to racing fans and the French community. This year, Carlisle is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the famed LeMans race that has played such an integral part in making Corvette the world-dominating force it is today.
This year’s Chip’s Choice display will be chock full of competition Corvettes that have solidified Corvette’s performance while driving the French countryside at speed. Starting with Corvette’s very first run of the day-long race, the display will include the famed #3 Cunningham Corvette, a 1994 Callaway LM #001, and a 2001 Callaway C12R, as well as many other notable Corvettes through the generations.
