The idea of a four-door Mustang has been a controversial topic among Ford fans for years, but new reports suggest the long-rumored model is closer to reality than ever before.
Following the successful expansion of the nameplate with the Mach-E, it appears Ford is preparing to grow the Mustang family once again, this time with a sleek four-door coupe and a surprise off-road variant.

According to a report from Auto1News, which cited sources who attended a recent Ford dealer meeting in Las Vegas, company executives showed off renderings of the new models. The main attraction was a four-door coupe that retains the Mustang’s iconic fastback styling.
Sources at the meeting said the car could be called the “Mach-4” or “Mach 4,” a clear nod to the Mach-E, but with the number 4 signifying its four doors.
This aligns with past comments from Ford CEO Jim Farley, who has said a four-door could be credible as long as it had the “performance and attitude of the original.” These comments add significant weight to the idea of a four door mustang joining the lineup.
In a more surprising reveal, Farley also reportedly showed dealers a photo of a rugged, off-road “Baja model.” This version was described as being lifted and equipped with four-wheel drive, taking inspiration from high-performance, all-terrain supercars like the Porsche 911 Dakar and Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato. This suggests Ford is looking to push the Mustang into entirely new performance categories.
While Ford has not officially confirmed these vehicles for production, a spokesperson told reporters that the company has very exciting plans to expand the portfolio with new vehicles. There is no information yet regarding the potential production timeline.
This move clearly shows a new level of confidence in the Mustang (or a new level of desperation). It has seen huge success globally in recent years, but it’s been a sales flop in the U.S. for a few years. For Farley, though, the Mustang’s future has never been brighter. By exploring these new models, Ford seems poised to transform the Mustang from a single iconic car into a full family of performance vehicles, ready to take on new challenges and new competitors.
