SEMA 2025 brought some much-needed attention to the 1982–1992 F-body platform. Flaming River was a highlight of the show, showcasing a fresh approach to third-gen Camaro and Firebird steering. Its latest setup is a complete package, pairing a direct-fit tilt column with a power rack-and-pinion cradle kit. It is engineered to bring modern handling precision and cabin comfort to one of GM’s most popular late-model platforms without hacking up the chassis.

Modern Comfort with Factory Fitment
The new Direct Fit Tilt Column is an American-made upgrade designed to look right at home in the ’80s and ’90s interior. It installs easily and is compatible with both factory and aftermarket steering wheels. Crucially, it integrates all the necessary functions like tilt, turn signals, hazards, wiper delay, and the high/low beam dimmer. Brett Domin of Flaming River pointed out that these columns include wiper and cruise control options right on the turn signal stalk, keeping the setup clean and functional. Available in a paintable mill finish, black powder coat, or polished stainless, it uses matching bolt-in floor mounts to simplify the job for builders.

A Bolt-In Third-Gen F-Body Steering Solution
The Power Rack-and-Pinion Cradle Kit (P/N FR372KTPWNC) completes the package by replacing the original, often-worn steering box and drag link. The engineering team designed this to use factory mounting points, so there is no need for suspension modifications, cutting, or welding. It retains the stock turning radius thanks to a patented travel bar design. The kit is comprehensive, including the rack, billet joints, mounting hardware, universal shafts, and an aluminum reservoir. This setup removes the “slop” associated with the old recirculating ball box, tightening up the driving experience significantly.

Built and Tested in the USA
Manufacturing quality is the priority here. Everything is made entirely in Berea, Ohio. Domin emphasized that every component—racks, columns, and cradles—is built brand-new and fluid/pressure tested to ensure reliability before it ships. For owners looking to update their ride, this upgrade delivers improved road feedback and a cleaner look under the hood. It offers a refined third-gen F-body steering feel that combines modern engineering with the car’s original character.
