This ’72 Chevelle has been a work in progress at Speedway Motors for almost 10 years and the company used it to debut its new GM A-body chassis at the 2026 SEMA Show in Las Vegas.

Like most project cars, the Speedway Chevelle has been through several iterations. It started out as a stock, one-owner car with a 307 two-barrel and a three-on-the-tree. It was slowly built up into a cool driver with some well-chosen bolt-ons from the Speedway Motors catalog, but this most recent rebuild really raises the bar.

It now features a trick Speedway Motors G-Comp full chassis, designed to maximize performance and handling in the ’68-’72 GM A body platform. The engine is a 6.0 LS rebuilt by Speedway Motors Racing Engines to deliver 500 horsepower through the TREMEC five-speed to the 18-inch ET LT-III Minilites. Fuel is provided by a TwoLane ’68-’72 A-body Fuel Tank and Pump and the hot LS is cooled by a WindChill 68-72 GM A Body LS Radiator. Inside, the mostly original interior was upgraded with some TMI seats and covers, NVU gauges and Speedway Motors harnesses to keep the occupants safe.
