Mopar fanatics, get this through your head right now – Billy isn’t going to go to college. No, he’s going to be much better off eventually inheriting this incredible Hemi Challenger that’s currently up for bid on eBay for a paltry $450,000.
Described by the seller as the only 1971 Hemi Challenger known to exist in this shade of sinister black paint, it’s also one of only 59 Hemi cars from that year also equipped with a four speed manual transmission, making this one of the most desirable and utterly badass original Mopars on the face of the planet today.
Somehow throughout the four and a half decades of this car’s existence it only shows 64,000 original miles, which would equate to less than 1500 miles per year. It’s also reported to retain its original engine, transmission, rear end and sports the A-34 Trak-Pak option, which includes a 3.54:1 Sure-Grip limited slip differential and a Dana 60 rear.
Inside, the car still wears its original headliner, seats and carpeting – all of which look essentially new, and all the glass on the car is original as well.
Originally purchased by the owner of a speed shop in Joplin, Missouri, as his daily driver, the car spent much of its first few years parked in front of the shop to attract business. The car went on to be raced at local tracks in Ohio in the late 70s and early 1980s, eventually finding its way into the hands of collectors starting in 1993.
It’s now hanging out in a climate controlled garage in Arizona looking for a new owner, and in our opinion, it’s essentially an ideal investment-grade survivor muscle car – few enough miles to be incredibly valuable, but enough mileage to allow the owner to put a few hundred on it here and there without destroying the car’s value, and you really can’t ask for a better combination of paint, powerplant and transmission in a ’71 Challenger.
