Enthusiasts have been searching for ways to enjoy their cars amid all of the recent regulations on socializing. Many show promoters have been working diligently to meet certain requirements while also offering opportunities for us all to enjoy our cars as a group. The National Street Rod Association just conducted their 51st NSRA Street Rod Nationals in Louisville, Kentucky earlier this month, working hard to ensure the event was a safe and fun environment for all in attendance.
The varied body styles make walking the show area exciting. Although, there is a favored modern powerplant for swapping. Today's engines don't have a classic feel, but we liked the vintage touch on the Studebaker's air filter to give it a vintage vibe. We bet it's no longer an oil bath though!
The NSRA Nats was held from August 6-9, 2020 at the Kentucky Expo Center, and attendees were treated to awesome weather and show fields full of awesome cars and fun events throughout the weekend. One of the great aspects of the NSRA event is the ability to enjoy your car while at the event. Driving through the show and being able to come and go at your leisure opens up the sprawling event and your schedule to fit in all the fun.
The Builder's Showcase featured some awesome and creative craftsmanship. Builders created masterpieces from various makes and models and the Roger Berman-built '35 Ford took home the Elite Builder of The Year award.
Finding parts for your project is always one of the main reasons many attend NSRA events throughout the year. Take a stroll through the swap meet area and see some of the great goodies waiting to find a forever home on someone’s ride & joy!
Reportedly, over 7,000 cars convened on the venue, and there was plenty of rodding action both inside and outside the event gates. At the event, there were the usual vendors of both new and used parts, activities and entertainment throughout the weekend, and as with all NSRA events, there was an awesome prize pack which featured the 1932 Ford roadster that was built by the Show-Me State Rod & Custom shop in Nixa, Missouri. Phillip Hill of Crestwood, Kentucky was the lucky winner of the Darrell Mayabb-designed hot rod.

Next year’s giveaway car is already built- mostly! The team at 1 Off Rod & Custom has been chosen to build the next giveaway car, a 1932 Ford roadster pickup. They unveiled the car at this year’s Nats, and true to their name, they’ve opted to make next year’s prize a truly one-off experience.

While there was one underlying reason why many folks chose not to take-in the event first-hand, there were many other reasons to attend this event. One of the main reasons being the NSRA Nationals is an incredible place to check out some of the best-built hot rods and customs in the country. Builders compete for top honors in a variety of areas and attendees can gather ideas, as well as components, to use in their own rides. Speaking with many other enthusiasts about their builds also gives like-minded individuals solutions to challenges or ideas along the way.

The NSRA events are always a family-friendly affair, and the automotive duo of Jack & Jax brought their video camera along for the ride around the fairgrounds during the event.

Whether you attend events looking for parts to complete your ride or to simply get out and enjoy your ride, supporting event promoters by visiting their events can be a great way to shake off any cabin fever you might have and it also allows you to work on your tan lines! The folks at the NSRA have taken steps to ensure everyone was safe throughout the event and will be patiently waiting for the next opportunity to get out with their rides.
Of all the reasons to attend a car event, taking in the sights and sounds of machinery making its way around the grounds is by far, one of the most satisfying. With that in mind, take a few minutes to enjoy this short video of some of the cars leaving the event. It’s a great way to see all of the various cars in attendance, and hearing such a symphony of exhaust tunes rivals anything the radio waves have to offer.
