With glittering low-riders and mini-hoods painted with impeccable details, the PPG booth certainly was a place to get lost at. While gawking at the brilliant paint colors I ran into the legendary car builder, Bobby Alloway.

Alloway’s builds primarily consist of vehicles built in the 1930s to 1970’s. He has earned a SEMA Battle of the Builders award, several America’s Most Beautiful Roader titles, and a Riddler award among others. His name frequently appears in many automotive Hall of Fames.

This year, Alloway has one vehicle on display at SEMA, a 1970 Chevelle. Alloway shared that he has been using PPG paint on all of his builds for the last 15 years. “I couldn’t be any more pleased with PPG. Since I made the switch about 15 years ago it’s absolutely been a wonderful experience that is way better than what I had previously.”

“Types of paint are different to apply. We’re not waterborne so we’re still old school and about everything we do as black,” Alloway said. “I never get tired of black, everybody says we have 14 different colors of black. PPG has probably the blackest black.”

Alloway added that black is the prettiest color to paint on a car. “If a car is ready to paint then it needs to be flawless. What I like about black is that it shows the bodywork.”

Alloway said one of the things he enjoys the most about using PPG paint is that is a “friendly product,” in the sense that it’s easy to use and hard to make mistakes with.

Alloway added that the PPG customer service is fabulous and making the move to PPG paint is the best move he ever made.
