When it comes to manual transmissions, there are few manufacturers better known in the market than TREMEC. They are known for both their legendary OEM transmissions, as well as their market-dominating aftermarket offerings. And now, they are taking their capabilities and answering the demands of the aftermarket with billet 6061 aluminum transmission cases.

“Everyone is always asking for billet housings, and we have the capability within TREMEC to produce them,” says TREMEC’s Mike Kidd. “First, we’re going to release the adapter plate and main case for the Magnum transmissions, and then next, we’ll work on TKX.” A billet case for the Magnum line of transmissions seems like a no-brainer, and including the option for the TKX brings up some interesting possibilities.

“I don’t have the exact figures on strength increase yet, but obviously, there is an added benefit in strength with a billet case,” Kidd explains. “Some people want them just because they like the look, but the reality is we’re doing it so that we add strength to the transmission, and we’re putting an optional internal oil pump in the front of it. The TKX doesn’t have that, but we’ll work towards that.”

With the announcement, of course the next logical question was about whether or not the billet cases would become a factory option on TREMEC transmissions. “At some point I’m pretty sure they will be available as an option on a complete transmission. But right now, it’s more about releasing the housings and getting them out to the market and then understanding the demand,” relates Kidd. “If the demand is there, and the market says, ‘Hey, we want to buy a full Magnum that has all the billet housings,’ then we’ll sell it that way. It’ll take a little time to get there, I think.”

Before whipping out your credit card and blowing up Kidd’s phone, there’s going to be a bit of a wait, as they aren’t expected to start shipping until the first half of 2027. “It’s such a unique item the market keeps asking for, I wanted to get it on display ASAP so the world knows what we can do,” Kidd concludes. It’s nice to know that TREMEC is listening to enthusiasts and is also willing to deliver what they are asking for.
