1963 F100 Hot Rod – A Recent Unique Find on eBay

We run across a lot of custom creations in this line of work and the longer you do this the fewer things surprise you. However, the internet has introduced everyone to entirely new levels of what’s out there and what’s possible.

We often come across cars that are built on custom or borrowed chassis or hobbled together with mis-matched parts. It’s not uncommon to find a rod or custom sitting on an old S-10 or Ranger frame, as this provides an affordable platform with inexpensive chassis parts that can be purchased at any small town parts store.

Then there’s this thing that we stumbled across on eBay over the weekend, item number 251145768335. It’s listed as a 1963 Ford F-100 and s far as we can tell from the very few pictures the seller incorporated into his listing, it looks like they might have used part of the F1 cab to turn into this cool little rod.

The front clip doesn’t appear to be from a pickup, save for maybe the steering gearbox and steering components. The interior is also a total mystery and appears that there may be none to speak of in terms of upholstery. Someone definitely put some time and effort into this build as the rear of the car features a louvered rear lid and a ton of custom bodywork throughout, including the frenched taillights and molded rear.

The paint looks pretty trick and you can tell it’s a quality job with tons of detail, but it’s hard to say exactly because again there’s a total lack of photos and info here. According to the listing the car has been completely restored over the past five years. It has a rumble seat, and removable hard top but neither are pictured.

We can tell you the engine was listed as a 5.0 crate roller motor, though no other information was given as to which one. We’d suspect this could be a GT40-P 5.0, based on the looks of it, as there doesn’t appear to be aluminum heads. We know the engine features three deuces based on the pictures and we can tell that the exhaust appears to dump to atmosphere from the headers. That’s about all we know from the photos and listing description.

We really like the stance of this thing, it’s low but the headers look as if they’re about to hit the ground. Big tires on the back, could be old M&H Racemasters, Hoosier QuickTimes, or other “cheater” type wrinkle wall tires. The wheels appear to be a truck style, maybe Eagle alloys, probably 15-inch diameter. We’re guessing they are probably 12-15 inches wide in the back and 8 inches wide in the front, though nothing is listed to tell us the specs, so it’s difficult to say for sure.

Starting bid was set for $7,500, and there was a reserve also set but the auction closed September 10, with no bidders. The listing gave only a minimal information and a completely vague description. We’d like to have seen more information about the car, and it’s history and more photos as well. Our experience with eBay has always been that if you’re trying to move something you can almost never give too much information. Better luck next time!
