1968 Camaro Gets Even Better With Rebuild

They tell you not to judge a book by it’s cover, and that often holds true for many automobiles. Sometimes what’s kinda ugly on the outside can have a massive power plant with gobs of horsepower. Then there are cars that look great on the outside and yet underneath… not so much. Sometimes when you start one project you end up addressing another unplanned project, like fixing rusted panels.

We love seeing enthusiasts who take a great looking car like this ’68 Camaro RS and despite it’s seemingly great shape they still tackle the jobs that need to get done. We found Randal’s car over at Pro-Touring.com and in his case he had a bit of the sheet metal cancer going on with his floorboards, unbeknownst to him. He calls it “Bad Intent” but we wonder if that was before or after he found the rusted floor?

But he went after it and cut out the bad pieces and although it looked like a Flintstone mobile for a while, he got his new floor welded in and continued on with his main project: replacing the engine and suspension.

He decided on a 383 crate engine pumping out 450 hp at the crank with a 700R4 trans. For braking he went big with Kore 3 and a Wilwood master cylinder. The suspension, like we’ve seen with so many classic cars these days, is getting a makeover as well. Randal’s going with a Hotchkis TVS suspension kit with Speed Tech control arms and Sport shocks and springs.

He had his laundry list and started plucking away and even though it was a long list and he had other money pits distracting him, like a new home, he still managed to get through this with flying colors. The car has turned out looking even better than it did when he started. You can’t deny the great looks of the early F bodies, and this one is no exception.
