Mopar enthusiasts rejoice! Dodge has announced that they will be the title sponsor for the Dodge Hemi Challenge, to be held at the NHRA U.S. Nationals on Thursday, August 30th through Friday the 31st. This premier happening will once again take place at the Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The event, which showcases Super Stock/A-HEMI (SS/AH) NHRA Sportsman class competitors battling it out on the quarter-mile drag strip in Hemi-powered, 1968 Dodge Dart and Plymouth Barracuda Super Stock cars, will celebrate the 50th anniversary of these iconic automobiles.
On the line will be massive bragging rights as well as the 42.6-pound NHRA Dodge Hemi Challenge trophy, created as a tribute to the legendary 426 HEMI Elephant motor. All sixteen drivers who reach the elimination rounds will receive cash prizes, and the winner will receive a $15,000 check.
“The Dodge Hemi Challenge is one of the most hotly contested events for our Sportsman racers during the season,” Brad Gerber, NHRA Vice President, and Chief Development Officer says. “The interest Dodge has in this program is greatly appreciated by the competitors.”
Adds Steve Beahm, Head of Passenger Cars, Dodge/SRT, Chrysler, and Fiat: “The Dodge Brand is proud to serve as title sponsor of the NHRA Dodge Hemi Challenge, an event that spotlights the legacy and power of the 426 Hemi engine.”
