’70 Charger SE: A Buried Family Treasure

It’s a story that’s all too common: a man buys a car, puts it in the garage, and eventually it’s forgotten about over time. We hear about it often, and here’s yet another example we’ve stumbled upon on Hooniverse. In this instance, it’s about the Hooniverse author, Greg Kachadurian’s late grandfather’s ’70 Charger SE that has been sitting in the same spot since 1971.

According to the Kachadurian, the Charger doesn’t run, but it inspired him to get into cars at an early age. The old Dodge is equipped with the factory 4-barrel 383 that produced 330HP, a Torqueflite automatic gearbox, and the Special Edition “SE” luxury package that was available on all Chargers for ’70, including the 500 and the R/T.

At one point the Charger was for sale, along with an early ’70s Mustang Mach 1 that Kachadurian’s grandpa also owned at the time. The stipulation being whichever car sold first, the other car would become the keeper. Obviously, the Mustang sold and the Charger remains, but at a cost. It appears to be in solid condition, and since it’s located in a garage in California, it probably is.

What became of the Mustang, nobody knows, but as it stands right now, the Dodge will continue to collect dust as time goes on. The author can’t even do anything with it himself since he lives too far away, and doesn’t have any time. That’s too bad, because this could be one helleva car once again.
