If there was anything that we learned from our recent coverage of a numbers-matching 340 ‘Cuda at this year’s East Tennessee Mopar Show it’s that an original car can be set up the right way while still deviating–if only slightly–from factory specifications. In the case of the Knoxville ‘Cuda, the owner made clever use of Viper paint to make an old-school piece of Mopar history look era-correct.
It’s not terribly undoable to establish this kind of balance, though it takes a special kind of builder to make it happen. In the case of our featured ’69 RS/Z28 that is to be put up for bid at this year’s Russo and Steele auction, a cool pro-tour/pro-street build is offered that is very unlike the typical LS, late-model build that we are used to covering.
Don’t get us wrong, LS pro-tour swaps are way more than cool, but with a motor that appears to be a factory small-block built to modern standards our featured 1st-Gen is truly something to behold, “Being that the car is a real X-33 RS/Z28 red on red car, it is equipped with a 427 stroked small-block that appears to be a 302 with a factory cross ram setup dynoed at 609 horsepower with a 4-speed and M9 fabricated rear.”
Our featured RS/Z28 is an actual X-33 car with red interior and a 4-speed
Up for auction between January 16-20, 2013 in Scottsdale, Arizona, our featured RS/Z28 could be the latest addition to your vintage Camaro collection. It may not be the most high-tech or the most sophisticated pony around, but with a cross ram 427 and a 4-speed chasing modern suspension, is this really a deal that you could pass up?!
