All I Want For Christmas

It is that time of year and the Christmas spirit is all around us. Joyful Christmas music fills the air. The one song that always seems to catch our attention this time of year is “All I want for Christmas is you.” That just seems to be a beautiful thought. The idea that you can ask jolly old Saint Nick for important stuff just because you’ve been a pretty good little boy or girl. It always makes us think: “What is that one really big thing that we want for being so good this past year?”

Santa… we’ve been so good but we really don’t want a lot. It would be a great Christmas if you could see it clear to bring us Speedweek at Bonneville again. If you can find it in your heart, maybe you can restore the salt flats back to it’s glory and dreamers of all ages can launch their way down the path of speed and return along the same path backing up the first run, but in the opposite direction. Santa, we’d be happy if you could just bring us that for Christmas.

If returning Bonneville is too difficult, maybe you could just bring back the Douglas Motorsports Park in Wyoming, Santa. After all, every state needs at least one operating dragstrip. If it’s not too much to ask, can you make sure that the track keeps it NHRA sanction when you bring it back to the town of Douglas? Perhaps you could leave a lump of coal in the stockings of each member of the city council that voted to close the only sanctioned dragstrip in the entire state of Wyoming.

If this task it too tall, Santa, can you just restore our hobby back to the good-natured sport that it once was? A sport where people used to have fun with their projects and shared every detail. A hobby where everyone could appreciate and respect the work of other builders, even if the build was not something they personally liked. Could you bring the hobby back to our heyday when everything was cool.

Maybe these requests are too steep Santa, and we need to ask for something that can be accomplished in just a night as you make your way around the world on that magical flight. Santa, can we ask you to bring us pin-up girls without tattoos? Pin-ups the way they used to be. You know the ones we are talking about. Can you do that for us please?
