AMD 1972-93 Dodge Truck OE-Style Door Window Seal Install

AMD 1972-93 Dodge Truck OE-Style Door Window Seal Install

One of the easiest ways to keep your truck going for years to come is by protecting it from the elements. Good news for Dodge truck owners, Auto Metal Direct has developed all-new OE-style replacement door window seals to help you protect your ride. Available for the 72-79 and the 80-93 trucks, they also cover Ramchargers as well. With the help of Jubee Mays of Jubee Mays Muscle Car Restorations, we take you thru the steps of removing your seals and replacing them with all new rubber.

Pre-1994 Dodge Trucks are a hot commodity these days. Keep yours looking and functioning at an optimal level.

This old truck has been in the family for years, it’s worked hard and although showing its age, it remains a solid truck. There are still plenty of years of service left in this 1986 D100. It retains its factory LA 318 5.2L V8 which was superseded by the Magnum V8. At some point, it was upgraded to a Quadrajet four-barrel mostly found in police applications.

But back to the seals, these door window seals often get brittle and deteriorate over time. They function to keep water and debris from collecting in the door. As you probably know, most trucks from this era are quite familiar with rusty door bottoms and the lack of attention to the seals is the main culprit of this rot.

Jubee will walk us thru the install and show you just how easy the install can be. A couple of tools are helpful. Needle nose pliers, a flat head screwdriver are about all you will need.

Inspect the new parts. A quick visual inspection will confirm that you have received the correct items and they are damage-free. The last thing you want to do is dive into a project and have the wrong parts.

As you can see the original door window seals have deteriorated beyond their life cycle. These are way overdue for replacement.

Go ahead and roll the window all the way down. We begin removing the old seals at the outer edge. This is where the needle nose pliers help.  A simple push-in and pull-up motion make removal a breeze and the pliers give you the leverage to be able to remove the old clip. Be careful with the removal, the clips can easily gouge your paint. You can always tape the area off if you like, with our old work truck we simply took precautions as to not scratch what paint was left.

Once removed, inspect the inner door where the clips attach. On our project, the passenger side was pristine, but the driver side needed a little adjustment back into place. The clip area should be straight and even. We adjusted ours using the flat head screwdriver and light pressure.

As you can see, the new AMD door window seals are a perfect match to the old worn-out original units. AMD offers these sets for the 72-79 Dodge Trucks (pt# 582-4772-1S), and the 80-93 Dodge Trucks as we are featuring here (pt# 582-4780-1S); these will also fit the Ramchargers 74-79 and 80-93 respectively

Installing the new seals is straightforward, line up the clips to the factory slots. We started with the inner seal and worked from one side to the other, pressing down until you hear the clips snap in place.

Follow the same technic for the outer seal. Dodge made life a little easier when they made the clip slots long enough to adjust the seals. You want the curved edge to sit along the contour of the door and follow flush throughout to the vent window.

With both doors complete, Jubee has ensured that this Dodge will be good to go for years to come.
