Bodie Stroud has taken on several restoration challenges during the new season of “American Restoration.” He has restored a vintage gas pump, gave new purpose to a Studebaker, and restored a penny scale for a beloved local landmark. Now Stroud is challenged to make a miniature Divco milk truck better than new on this week’s episode of “American Restoration” airing Friday, March 25, 2016 at 10/9 p.m. CDT on HISTORY.
The Divco miniature milk truck that is featured on this week’s episode was brought to Bodie in rough shape. The tiny truck was missing the entire dash as well as the engine, but Bodie and the crew gladly accept the challenge. The crew will fabricate a new dash, refurbish the interior and give the little truck and big cosmetic makeover. Additionally, Bodie will give this little truck a big boost of power, installing a Briggs and Stratton racing motor that outputs upwards of 35 horsepower (for comparison, a typical golf cart has less than 10hp).
Divco is one of the oldest utility based vehicle producers in America. From 1926 through 1986, the company produced a dozen unique models each intended for deliveries, food preparation, and other work-related tasks. In the 1950s, modified mini-Divco trucks were produced for parades and simpler tasks.
“This little truck turned out to be a big project,” said Bodie Stroud. “We had to create an entirely new dash component and refurbish the entire interior. We also built in two coolers into the back of the truck that can be filled with ice. I really wanted the truck to be fun and have a little kick, so I also put a bigger engine in it. I think the customer will really enjoy the BSI-version of this little Divco truck.”
The seventh season of “American Restoration” features five new shops across the country. Representing the West Coast is Bodie Stroud Industries – the only shop to appear on all 13 episodes of the new series. For more information on Bodie Stroud Industries, visit www.bodiestroud.com.
