At the beginning of this year, Rod Authority had the pleasure of spotlighting the young entrepreneur, Andy Suciu, owner and operator at Sacramento Speed Shop. His shop is geared towards enthusiasts with a love for authentic craftsmanship. “I want to offer a product to people with limited fabrication skills or resources that want the option of going with handmade parts,” Andy told us during the interview.
That first article shed light on his velocity stacks made for 2-barrel carburetors. Check out the link to that interview here if you haven’t seen it yet.
Andy recently contacted us and told us about some new bomber seats that he’d finally got around to producing. “The new seats that we have out are aluminum 40s style bomber seats, but with my design and vision.”
He continued, “First thing we did different is we chose to powder coat our seats chrome. Bare aluminum tends to oxidate quickly which leads to the seat getting really dirty and having to be cleaned every time you sit in it. The chrome powder coat allows you to keep that shiny look, but without the hassle of cleaning.”
Moving to some of the details of his new handmade pieces Andy told us, “I also decided to step out of the norm and use copper rivets instead of the usual aluminum rivets that you always see. I also took it a step further and used laser cut diamonds with copper backing which are riveted to the seats. This is a step away from the usual dimpled holes that [bomber seats] usually have and it compliments the copper rivets.”
Andy’s bomber seats certainly offer a subtle and unique step away from what you typically see. The young and ambitious owner of Sacramento Speed Shop left us with some final notes, “The biggest accomplishment with these seats I think is the fact that we were able to put together a system where everyone can own a pair of these seats at a very reasonable $799.99 a pair. Bomber seats are usually for sale through other stores however they are very plain, with no character, and low attention to detail. Ours give people a chance to own a true handmade piece of art that was made right here in the USA without breaking the bank.
