These stories are all too common. We always stumble across a classic car rotting away in a shed, garage or barn waiting to be rescued as if in some Sleeping Beauty story. Sometimes that Prince comes, and sometimes he doesn’t. Sometimes the owner has too strong of a sentimental bond and refuses to give up a car that just may be salvaged to former glory if allowed to exchange hands.
This ’79 Trans Am is still in the hands of its original owner who had received it as a graduation present. The car sat for many years without being driven and the owner made the smart decision to bring it inside for better storage. Sitting on jack stands, the car had been sitting for at least a decade. Ken who submitted the story to CarsinBarns, stumbled across it and was able to get the original owner to sell him the car.
Ken brought the red Trans Am home and installed a new battery. He then cranked it over and over to check oil pressure where it had about 30 psi. during cranking, and then he poured some gas into the carb to fill the float bowl. Believe it or not, when he turned the key over this old gal roared to life, idling as if it had never been stored in the first place.
Now that’s a Sleeping Beauty story if we have ever heard one – another one is saved from eternal rest and with the right touch it’s brought back to life to enjoy America’s roadways. Do you have a similar story? Share it with us below – perhaps we can share your story with our readers.
