While the new Dodge Dart certainly isn’t a favorite of some, now there’s one more reason for the compact car to be on performance car enthusiasts’ s**t lists. That’s because, on Monday, April 28th, a new Dodge Dart reportedly ran a red light in Ontario, Canada, taking out not just any car, but a super-rare Ferrari F40. Commence groans of emotional pain.
According to The Garage Blog, the Ferrari F40 was out on a test drive at the hands of a mechanic from Ferrari of Ontario when the driver of a newer Dodge Dart flew through a red light, hitting the front end of the driver’s side of the Ferrari as it attempted to execute a left-hand turn. Fortunately, neither driver was seriously hurt in the incident, but the results were catastrophic for the rare super car.
With just 1,315 Ferrari F40s built (from 1987 through 1992), there are only about 10 believed to be in the Ontario area. This, of course, makes the crash that much more significant as the driver found at fault is sure to pay a hefty sum of money to fix up the nostalgic prancing horse. We’re hoping that the driver of the Dart had adequate insurance.
It is unclear if the rare F40 was at the Ferrari dealership being worked on for a customer or the dealership’s owner, Remo Ferri. Either way, it’s going to be spending a lot more time in the shop than originally intended.
Recent sale prices for F40s changing hands have increased to about $1 million, so we expect to see one heck of a repair bill pop up after all is said and done.
