ATI Racing has rolled out bolt-together versions of its popular Treemaster torque converters, giving racers a more efficient and practical option for TF 904 and 727 transmissions. Available in both 8-inch and 9-inch configurations, these converters solve a common headache in drag racing: the downtime and hassle of shipping converters out for service.
The biggest change is the bolt-together design. Racers who would normally need to send their converters off for stall changes, overhauls, or post-failure cleaning can now take care of everything themselves. Whether at home or between rounds at the track, maintenance and adjustments are now possible without a trailer full of spares or a backup plan.
Build quality is still what you’d expect from ATI. Each unit has a 2024 billet aluminum front cover and cast aluminum or billet aluminum stators. Both options are available with or without a sprag or diode. Internally, the converters are built with furnace-brazed, American-made pump and turbine assemblies and sealed up with double O-rings for added reliability.
Weight savings also come into play. The 9-inch version can trim as much as 4.5 pounds compared to traditional designs. That makes a real difference on the track, where lighter equals faster.
These converters also bring new versatility to your setup. Instead of changing the whole converter, racers can now swap stators to dial in the stall speed or response they want. Whether the track heats up, conditions change, or you’re tweaking your combo, adjustments are fast and easy.
ATI doesn’t just test on paper. These converters were refined through real-world racing in the company’s own Drag Pak Challenger and with championship-winning drivers like NHRA’s Doug Duell. Their feedback helped shape the performance and durability of the final product.
There are few companies out there testing and tuning with their own drag cars, but ATI is one of them.
Already running an ATI converter? There’s an upgrade path to convert your existing unit to a bolt-together design, so you don’t have to start from scratch.
With these new Treemaster bolt-together torque converters, ATI continues pushing innovation while giving racers more control over maintenance, tuning, and trackside performance. It’s a smart step forward that blends serviceability with the same proven performance racers already rely on.
