Anyone who follows musclecar trends is well aware of the fact that the entry price for the hobby continue to climb every day, making daily driver examples of popular vintage years of models like the Mustang, Chevelle, Charger, and GTO essentially unattainable for anyone without some seriously deep pockets. These days even rusted out shells of cars like the ’70 Plymouth Barracuda can command thousands of dollars, even if the original car was just a grocery getter.
That’s why when we see ads like this 1973 Plymouth Duster we have to rub our eyes in disbelief. It’s rare sight in 2015, but cheap, cool project cars still exist. Sure, the ’73 model year isn’t quite as sought after as a ’71, but the bones are essentially identical, and this one looks like a pretty clean example (aside from some rot around the rear glass).
Of course at $600 it’s not a surprise it’s a roller, but fortunately it’s setup for a V8, and aside from the missing drivetrain, the seller reports it’s fairly complete. Hell, it even has disc brakes!
And while you could always convert this ’73 to resemble an earlier Duster, there’s a certain toughness to the mid-70s bumpers and simple tail light design. Much like the Nova, the great thing about the Duster is that you can really go in any direction with it and end up with an awesome car – street machine, autocross terror or just a great cruiser. With a price tag this low, you really can’t go wrong. Now get your ass to Long Beach!
