While on a family vacation in Maine, our young friend Jason spotted this derelict 1965 Ford Thunderbird in the parking lot of a closed down repair shop. Being a fan of classic cars Jason spotted the car from the road and made his parents stop while on their way to dinner. He was awed by the fallen bird and spent a bit of time appertaining its craftsmanship.
As he was snapping pictures and day dreaming of being behind the wheel, the owner who lived next door came over to talk to him. He was happy to see a young person interested in classic cars and told him that he owned the repair shop but sold it, as he is moving south to a house he restored himself. He also told him that just the day before he had 12 classic cars from the 1930s which he had sold that would have also been a cool sight to see.
The 1965 Thunderbird was the 2nd year of the fourth generation Ford Thunderbird. Ford gave the 4th generation a more “formal” squared off design that brought the car up to contemporary 1960s standards. However, by 1964 the T-Birds sporty image had become well… only an image, Ford began focusing more on the car’s styling and left the performance in the hands of the Mustang and Galaxie.
The T-Bird’s stock 390 FE only propelled the Bird to 60 MPH in 11 seconds. In 1965 modern conveniences such as front wheel disc brakes and sequential turn signals where added to spruce up the bird. The Bird’s thurst was increased and it was given more power for the 1965-66 years.
We love the look and uniqueness of this old ‘Bird, get a load of the rear opening trunk for stowing the convertible top. The T-Bird is for sale, so hopefully someone will give this bird the TLC she needs and get her airborne once again.
