Michigan native, Bob Seger recently released a music video paying homage to Detroit, the iconic capital of automobile production. According to a story by Nick Murray that appeared in Rolling Stone, “Next month, Bob Seger will be releasing Ride Out, his first LP since 2006’s Face the Promise.”
The article expands on Bob’s inspiration for this single, “Detroit Made,’ [is] a John Hiatt-penned tribute to the singer’s hometown and the cars that it has produced. Shot largely at Detroit’s Woodward Dream Cruise, a hot rod parade that passes through the city on the third Saturday of every August, the video features footage of classic rides owned by other Michigan natives.”
According to the event’s homepage, “The Woodward Dream Cruise actually started as a small fundraiser to raise money for a soccer field in Ferndale, Michigan.”
In August of 1995 Nelson house, along with a group of volunteers, sought to pay homage to the iconized lifestyle of the 50s and 60s. During its inaugural year, more than 250,000 thousand individuals participated in the event, “nearly ten times the number expected” according to event history.
For all the misfortune surrounding the current state of Detroit’s old auto-production sector, the fire and pride that Detroit and Michigan in general preserve is undeniable. Today the Woodward Dream Cruise draws in more than 1.5 million people and over 40,000 classic cars each year from around the globe.
