Traditionally the city of Reno opens up their fine city during the first week of August to welcome Hot Rodders, Street Rodders and Musclecar enthusiasts of all kinds. The Hot August Night event is one of the largest modern car events in the world and is spread out beyond the Reno city limits these days.
Historically the city’s mayors have been behind the Hot August Nights projects because they were all hot rod enthusiasts to various degrees. The current mayor, Hillary Schieve, may not be a huge enthusiast yet, but the smokin’ hot mayor (and we do mean that. She could also be in the running for the most beautiful mayor in the entire country), is an expert in marketing with a degree from the University of Arizona State in the field.
The city closes off streets for the event and cars park along the sides of the street in these closely guarded areas. Every casino in the city also hosts a show and shine during the event, each with its own flavor. Estimates from the experts claim that more than 800,000 people flock to the events to see the cars and stars during the event.
We hopped off the airplane and went to the car rental booth to pick up our rental vehicle. Inquiring where the best place to go to see the cars, the lovely counter worker at Enterprise rental told us to go directly to GSR (Grand Sierra Resort) for the best cars. We made a beeline to the casino and discovered that our new favorite counter clerk was correct. The cars were fantastic.
We want to show a few cars that we shot for a teaser of the car show coverage that we will post later this next week. Stay tuned for more Hot August Nights coverage to come.
