Looking to be an ordinary, beat up and rusted classic car, we came across a sleeper lurking in the shadows. Posted on Engine Swap Depot, we found a 1951 Buick two-door with a slithering Dodge Viper V10 engine transplanted under the hood.
Requiring several modifications to become operational, this Buick needed to be rebuilt from the ground up by the team at 2 Lane Blacktop in Reklaw, Texas. Specializing in pre 1972 truck and car restoration, 2 Lane looked to be on a mission with this Buick to pull off the impossible.
The burly transmission required the floorboard to be cut and reshaped to accommodate it. What’s more, the firewall had to be completely redone due to the additional components needed to get this Buick in working order.
Using a Fat Man front subframe, the enormous Viper engine sits on Ridetech Shockwave air suspension, and a Ford 9 inch rear end. Not to mention, the rear has been narrowed by 4 inches and is fitted with huge 20×14 wheels in the rear and 18×8’s in the front.
Choosing to leave the car unpainted only gives this Buick that much more sleeper status. However, an enthusiast would know something is lurking under the hood just by observing the wide wheel setup on this harmless looking Buick.
What are your thoughts on this Buick? Would you have repainted it or left it as is?
