There is always a nagging fear that your classic car may not be parked where you left it in the morning. According to Fox 4, a Lake Highlands man had his 1965 Mustang stolen from his driveway while he was asleep. J.W. Hammett also known as “Dubber,” had owned the red convertible Mustang for over twenty years.
According to Fox 4, the values for these classic pony cars range from $9,000 to $50,000 depending on condition and options. Hammett stated that his ’65 was not at the top of the market value, but it was worth more than $9,000; the emotional value of the car is something that insurance just can’t replace. Depending on the options and body style classic Mustangs often command a high price, which also makes these cars very attractive to car thieves.
Hammett posted the theft of his classic on social media, which attracted the attention of a neighbor who caught the thief in action on his security camera. According to Hammett, the thief took a play from the teenager’s handbook and rolled the car out of the driveway in neutral. This allowed the scumbag to sneak away undetected to nearby alleyway to finish his dirty work and drive away some twenty minutes later.
Hammett suspected that the thief worked on bypassing Hammett’s anti-theft device before hot wiring the car. Although, there was no comment from law enforcement in Fox 4 coverage, Hammett stated that he planned work with detectives in hope of bringing the thief to justice. Hopefully, the Mustang will be returned or at least recovered to its rightful owner.
