Cars In The Park: The 2017 Cedarhurst Car Show

This past August 20th began like any other warm Sunday morning in Cedarhurst NY on the South Shore of Long Island-but as the sun’s rays grew in intensity, an approaching rumble gently shook it’s quiet suburban streets.

Around 9:00 am, they began to arrive, predominantly American iron from the big three. Machines from the 1930s-to the present slowly surrounded the venue, skulking slowly and purring like wild cats, they waited to claim their spots on the serene, green lawns, 150 vehicles in all-according to show organizer/car guy Allen Levy-including cars, trucks and motorcycles.

Named for the towns late, great, multi-decade resident, WWII veteran and Mayor-Andrew J. Parise, the tree- framed park welcomed the array of automotive artwork, creating a car-fanatic’s fantasy backdrop, as beautiful as the varied botanicals.

Under the leafed canopies and lining the paths, American muscle with iconic monikers like, GTO, GTX, Chevelle and Nova SS, Camaro, GSX and others, sat proud with open hoods, while hundreds of saucer-eyed spectators young and old, leered enviously at the spectacle of horsepower.

Corvette fans were blessed with multiple generations of America’s sports car from the 50s to new millennium models, while vintage classics, late model performance cars, one-offs, customs and a plethora of pick up trucks rounded-out the automotive eye candy.

This was not the first car show in the park, as it had been done a couple times before, but this year’s turnout went above and beyond expectations, surpassing previous attempts and setting a new standard. With continued chatter spreading throughout the village, as to the shows success, it looks like “Cars In The Park” will become an annual event.
