Life was groovier in 1969. Need proof? Look no further than this swingin’ Javelin dealer promo flickering away on YouTube. Follow along with a very fashionable, sixties hipster chick that’s ALL about AMC pony cars.
Probably the coolest bit of this film takes place at a speedway where we get to see the two racing Javelins that surprised many during the 1968 Trans Am season. Painted in iconic red, white and blue, these two cars driven by Peter Revson and George Follmer fared well in their debut and scored a record for AMC as the only manufacturer to finish every race entered.
After the two race cars whiz by,our gal jumps into a very sharp white Javelin SST with red stripes, a black top and wire wheel discs and blasts off. We follow along, with some great vintage street scenes, as she motors through a bustling downtown corridor. The race cars appear again, cut into the footage, as almost subliminal reminders that their DNA is in every Javelin. Oh yeah, and we also learn where Kurt Cobain got his taste in eye wear.
Soon the cityscape falls away and our girl/car duo, looking very cool, zip through some leafy byways. Before you know it, we’re at a marina where our girl’s high end, scene-ster friends are gettin’ down at a “Laugh In” style yacht party! The floppy hats, high water pants and go-go inspired dancing is awesome.
Topping this all off is a mind numbing ditty of a sound track extolling all things, young, hip and Javelin. Has anyone invented a time machine yet?
