If you’ve ever had a speeding ticket, you know how hard it can be to contest it, even at only a few miles over. Few of us with speeding ticket experience, however, have ever faced a 144 mile per hour speeding ticket. According to our friends over at Autoblog.com, a Canadian man is facing just that, and may have just set himself up for definite failure.
To have even the slightest chance of beating such a ticket, you would have to prove something such as a serious malfunction of the radar gun used or that an officer was just out to get you. Proving your car can’t even go as fast as the ticket claims might also be a valid defense- that is if you didn’t contradict yourself in an advertisement to sell the vehicle.
The man, who was pulled over in a Dodge Neon, is advertising his car as a 420 horsepower car with $25,000 in upgrades. Based on the clocked time and amount the owner was willing to spend on upgrades, AutoBlog writer Aaron Richardson is betting the car is an SRT-4, although that information was not disclosed.
As many of us know, the SRT-4 can easily exceed the 144 mph mark, especially with the “Stage 3” turbo and custom suspension that the car is being advertised with. The problem with the statements in the advertisement are that the Neon’s owner is trying to get out of his speeding ticket by saying that his car is incapable of going 144 miles per hour based on its economy-car status.
The car is being sold for $9,900, a relatively cheap price if the amount for upgrades is legit. However, this price won’t give the owner nearly as much once he has to pay off his ticket. The man faces a $3,671 fine if found guilty.
