If you’re confused, you’re not alone. But, we’re going to try to iron things out: After the massive success of the all-new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Fiat felt that the new Jeep would lend itself to a little European makeover for its Maserati brand. See Fiat, in a way to make the Maserati brand a little more diverse, opted to introduce the critically-acclaimed Grand Cherokee to a whole new market, rebadged and somewhat Euro-ized.

But what does that entail? Well, according to Sergio Marchionne, the Maserati SUV will share much of the same architecture as the Jeep, but have a more stylized look. Moreover, the new SUV – confirmed to be built at the Jefferson Avenue plant – will also have either a Ferrari V8 or V12. While either dancing pony plants are no slouch, Europeans will likely not be offered the venerable 5.7L HEMI.

Additionally, Marchionne also leaned towards a “souped up diesel” but hasn’t mentioned anything further to confirm that rumor. While no date has been published for its launch, 2013 appears to be the most likely.
