Oh the eternal pursuit of the “shortcut.” Y’know, the quick and easy route was all look for when it comes to resolving a tough, difficult challenge that lays before us. Unfortunately, most shortcuts typically result in having to readdress the same problem a second time around in addition to having to undue our first “fix” before applying a permanent second solution.
In the long run, most shortcuts provide only temporary relief to problems which will eventually require double the work not too later thereafter.
But don’t tell that to Red Green.
Duct tape, bailing wire and JB Weld are the common tools of Red’s trade. The perennial Canadian handy man’s comedy show aired for years on various channels in Canada, including its ultimate home at CBC Television, as well as Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) stations in the US through 1991 until 2006.
A cross between a sitcom and a sketch comedy series, the Red Green Show parodied home improvement, DIY, fishing, and other outdoor-themed shows that showed that a little ingenuity, some duct tape and a whole lot of “get-it-done-now-and-worry-about-it-later” engineering made for some comedy gold.
In this instance, Red goes about instructing how if a four-barrel carburetor can increase your classic ’68 Camaro’s performance, a giant five-gallon toilet has got to be better. We won’t give away all the jokes, but man, you’ve gotta watch this.
