There are land yahcts, boats, cruisers, whales and aircraft carriers…and then there are Chrysler Imperials.
When it comes to America’s bloated, over-the-top love of massively unnecessarily large cars during the 1970s, there’s few cars than can match this massive Mopar’s girth.
This is the car the B-52’s sang about, “Hop in my Chrysler, it’s a big as a whale and it’s about to set sail!”
So when we caught this video of a massively obese ’69 Chrysler Imperial Crown we had to laugh. Tipping the scales at around 5,000 pounds (y’know, the same weight as say a full-sized pickup truck), the Imperial easily overpowers its weak rear tires as all that mass is whipped around thanks to its 440 plant churning its limply-geared 8 3/4 rear.
It looks like a hell of a lot of fun and we’re a little jealous…that and considering a really fun idea for next year’s Power Tour.
