Despite being a city assembled of 20th Century ruins, Detroit is paving the way of the future. Chrysler plans to not only rival but to crush it’s competition as they will be leading the pack in terms of V-6 engine innovation. Their fleet of Pentastar V-6 engines will receive a batch of futuristic upgrades. The V-6 Pentastar engines will reach a new level of efficiency and produce greater power by utilizing a new direct injection system and being equipped with turbos. This Pentastar upgrade is to improve the line of engines that were launched in 2011 with the Jeep Cherokee.
The 3.2L found inside of the base model Cherokee is receiving its direct injection and turbo option in order to rival Ford’s EcoBoost series and GM’s twin turbo V-6 Cadillac motors. With current standard injection systems, the fuel mixes with incoming air before it makes its way into the combustion chamber through the valves, and the fires are lit. The way direct injection works is the valves are eliminated from the fuel’s path and fuel flows directly into the combustion chamber resulting in a cleaner burn which results in better MPG and more power to the wheels.
Chrysler’s 3.6L currently found inside of the Cherokee will receive the Pentastar upgrades as well. According to Car Scoops, a face lift is to be expected on the Jeep Cherokee. Do you think this could be the V6 found in the future LA/LX platforms – and would you welcome it?
