Classic Instruments continues to make some of the highest-quality gauges for hot rods. Recently, they have launched a new speedometer rated at 270 mph for those looking to break land speed records or set amazingly high trap speeds in the quarter-mile. They just sent the official release over to us today, and you can take a look at it below.

Official Release:

We our now extending our Velocity series to include the Salt Flat Special! This instrument package will include the incredibly accurate Sky Drive and 270 mph speedometer with a fully programmable halo light. The halo light is an intense red LED light that will illuminate the entire instrument face when triggered. The Sky Drive has an independent output that can be used to trigger a relay if another warning device would want to be used (external LED, buzzer, etc.)

Based on the successful engineering of George Poteet’s Blowfish gauge (car built by Rad Rides by Troy, driver Danny Burrows), we were able to design this new speedometer for Russ Dean.

After the intense testing by the Blowfish, team and Russ Dean at Bonneville, we decided to make this product available for all of our customers. Dean was successful in breaking the F/PS record in Category E at the Bonneville Nationals at a speed of 226 mph with what he calls a “flawless” Sky Dive. While updating 10 times per second, Sky Dive was able to produce incredibly accurate readings throughout the entire run. The Sky Dive is capable of accurately reading speeds up to 625 mph.

Classic Instruments will calibrate the speedometer in house to further ease installation. We will also set the red halo light to illuminate at any given speed, allowing you to know when you beat your previous record. The exaggerated indies are designed to specifically highlight the most important areas for licensing runs. The gauge will be available in the Velocity White series in a 5-inch or a 3 3/8-inch with custom options available. A 3-inch chromed tachometer cup can be purchased separately.

Features:

  • Exaggerated indies and numerals
  • Bright orange pointer
  • Red halo lighting
