Classic Instruments’ NSRA Customer Appreciation Day & Poker Run

Today’s event scene is much different than in other years. Whereas the weather was always a main factor in the past, many enthusiasts, eager to get out and enjoy their cars, have recently dealt with re-schedules or outright cancellations of their favorite venues. Thankfully, this weekend, both the weather and the social-distancing situation cooperated and the folks at Classic Instruments held their 20th Annual National Street Rod Association Customer Appreciation Day and also included a Fund-Police Poker Run to allow participation under current safety restrictions and provide support for the local Boyne City Police Department.

In an effort to keep the event outside, the Fund-Police Poker Run was designed as a way for folks to enjoy their cars and, get the opportunity to win an awesome prize package, awarded to the lucky enthusiast who held the highest hand. It also benefitted the local Boyne City Police Department, as the event raised $8,500, which it intends to use for safety equipment and training so Boyne City officers can continue to serve the people of Boyne City and the surrounding areas.

The Fund-Police Poker Run was led by Boyne City's Assistant Police Chief, Dan Mercer, and helps provide equipment and training for the local officers.

The poker run was kicked off with police escort, lead by Assistant Police Chief Dan Mercer, to the first card stop at Boyne Mountain Resort, where participants were greeted with coffee and danishes generously provided by Boyne Mountain Resort. It was then on to the next four stops to complete the run. The group got to enjoy the scenic route through Walloon Lake Village, 7 Hills of Walloon, visit Brown Motors of Petoskey, and the beautiful Village of Bay Harbor. They traveled along Lake Michigan, to Charlevoix to visit the pier, followed by a trip through East Jordan down the south arm of Lake Charlevoix. The poker run ended back at Classic Instruments to determine the winner.

Tom Fahoome just found out he needs to find a place for his new Bowler Performance transmission and Classic Instruments gauges.

Tom Fahoome brought back the winning hand and was awarded the 700r4 transmission and convertor, generously donated by poker run sponsor Bowler Performance Transmissions. He also took home a 6-gauge set of Classic Instruments. Other attendees had the opportunity to win some of the many raffles and silent auction prizes generously donated by many industry friends and local businesses.

Attendees could peruse the items offered during the event, as well as take a chance on winning one of the many prizes donated by members of the automotive industry.

There was live entertainment from the band Full Circle and pizza for lunch from BC Pizza, which helped keep folks’ dancing legs and stomachs content. Awards were also given out for cars on display including the Jack McLeod Memorial Award, the Modern Rodding Award, the Classic Truck Performance Award, and the Classic Instruments’ Team Pick Award.

Awards including the Jack McLeod Memorial Award, the Modern Rodding Award, the Classic Truck Performance Award, and the Classic Instruments’ Team Pick Award were given at the event. As you can see, competition was stiff to get the approving eye of the judges!
