When you buy a part from Chevrolet Performance Parts, it’s designed by people who actually understand what you’re doing with it. The engineers at GM don’t just work on fast cars; they live and breathe them, using their own track-day passions to develop authentic, track-proven components. Their latest creation, a new Carbon Performance Package for the Camaro ZL1, is a perfect example of this philosophy.

Engineers Who Live and Breathe Performance
This isn’t a marketing gimmick. Engineering Group Manager Mirza Grebovic regularly tracks his Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing, while Senior Design Engineer John Kalbfell wrenches on a ’69 Camaro at home. “Our whole group lives and breathes performance,” Kalbfell said. It’s this personal passion that separates their work from a simple day job.

The New Carbon Performance Package
That authenticity drove the new ZL1 Carbon Performance Package. The goal was to give the standard ZL1 coupe the aerodynamic grip of the hardcore 1LE, without sacrificing its touring comfort. The final package, which achieved downforce within five percent of the 1LE, includes a ZL1 1LE grille, a new splitter with carbon end caps, a carbon hood insert, carbon rocker extensions, and a massive carbon-fiber rear wing. “Authenticity is super important to us,” Grebovic said. “If we bring this to a track day, we’d be beyond proud.”

From the Track to the Factory
This engineer-led approach is critical. Grebovic uses his personal track time to interact with customers, asking, “What issues am I running into? What kind of customer feedback am I hearing?” He explained that this direct feedback loop led to better products, and he now sees more GM products on track days than ever. It’s all about hearing customer voices and going through the ownership experience.

Chevrolet Performance Parts: By Racers, For Racers
This new package wasn’t designed in a vacuum. It was a joint effort between GM’s aero teams and their NASCAR motorsports team in North Carolina. Kalbfell noted that the learnings from high-speed racing do correlate to their performance vehicles. The package was then validated with real-world laps at the Milford proving ground to ensure the aero balance was stable and correct. It’s all part of a long-standing GM tradition. “The slogan was always ‘from racers to racers,'” Grebovic said. The new Carbon Performance Package for 2017-2024 ZL1 coupes is available now in the 2026 Chevrolet Performance Parts catalog.
