COMP Cams® announces a new camshaft specifically designed for Sportsman racers using the Dart X block and Big Chief cylinder head package.
Engineers at COMP Cams® and Dart recently teamed up to create an affordable, winning valve train combination based on Pro Stock technology for Sportsman racers. The resulting setup properly aligns the valve train to increase horsepower while reducing friction and stress.
COMP Cams® and Dart have designed the ultimate fast bracket/heads-up racing engine package with a new COMP® camshaft that was engineered to be custom ground for each customer’s specific needs. The camshaft is manufactured from aircraft quality 8620 steel and features a 60mm journal that allows the use of more lobe profiles and a 4&7 swap firing order that is better on engine harmonics. In addition, the lobe spacing and bank angles are configured to optimize lifter bore placement, and the pushrod angles work perfectly with the Dart X block and Big Chief cylinder heads. The end result is a stable valve train that produces more horsepower.
Dart recently had great success assembling an engine using this new camshaft, block and cylinder head package. The combination made 1300 horsepower from a single carburetor, 598c.i. engine running on gasoline. A COMP Cams® belt drive (Part #6300) and belt distributor drive mount kit (Part #6200EDSK) were used to complement the package.
