During our latest Craigslist project car mining expedition, we uncovered this gem – a 1966 Plymouth Belvedere with a 440 big block. It’s not perfect, but the price is fair at $7,000 and it really does have a lot going for it. This Belvedere has what we like to call the “Trifecta of Project Car Potential” working in its favor.
- Powerplant Potential: There’s that 440 under the hood. If that’s not enough by itself, the owner says it was rebuilt two years ago so it’s reasonably fresh. It also already has a set of Hedman headers, an MSD ignition, and an Edelbrock carb and intake. The fact that the underhood wiring was recently replaced just adds to the list of positives.
- Straight Body and Good Paint: The Belvedere already has a good paint job and a reasonably straight body from what we can tell. At first glance you might think the car is in primer, but it’s actually a flat gunmetal metallic finish from Hot Rod Flatz that really kicks up the toughness factor.
- Safety: The third major positive this car has going for it is the fact that the front suspension and brakes have been completely redone. That means you could drive and enjoy this car as is and know that it’s safe, and that you aren’t trusting your life to crusty 45 year old seals and bushings.
The owner is being very realistic about his future with the car, and rather than sit on the Belvedere like an automotive hoarder, he’s decided to let it go on to a new owner who can put in the time and money to get it finished. In the right hands this big Plymouth could really shine. Check it out here in the Riverside California Craigslist.
