We all love big engines in small cars, there’s just something about it that seems so right when it wasn’t meant to be in the first place. Occasionally, we come across a rather odd combination and even though it’s not your typical engine swap, it’s pretty cool nonetheless.
When we came across this listing on Craigslist, we were curious what a 1970 Datsun 1600 Hot Rod was. The Datsun 1600 was a small roadster that has seen a few SR20 swaps recently, but one owner in Boise, ID, has decided to do something a little different with his 1600, and now it can be yours.
After all the work it took to stab a 302 and C4 combination into this roadster, the owner has decided it’s time for a new home. His asking price is $6,500, which includes an early 70’s 302 bored .040 over with flat top pistons, a Comp cam with roller rockers and reworked ports, and a Weiand intake.
The C4, oddly enough, is from a truck, and the rearend is a Ford 8 inch with 3.55 gears. He built a tilt front end for it to make engine work easier, but unfortunately we don’t get to see the engine on this mini-beast. Oddly, the huge rear tires and plastic flares are a dead giveaway, as are the 70’s era sidepipes.
It would have been a pretty nice little roadster had the rear tires remained a little closer to the original size. He says it’s very fast, and no doubt a 302 in a tiny car like this is, but we wonder how well it’s going to handle now that the ass-end is up in the air like a stinkbug?
