We saw this twin-turbo diesel powered 1996 Mustang over on Craigslist and knew it needed to be brought to your attention. Quite frankly, we love oddball combinations like this because it’s a testament to true wrench-turning coolness. Who else but a complete gearhead would build such a contraption?
According to the listing, the 1996 Mustang has been retrofitted with a 6.2L GM diesel. He has set it up with a pair of chromed turbos with external waste gates and an intercooler. The exhaust is full 3-inch duals with an H-pipe, exiting the side of the ‘Stang. We can only imagine the sound it would make with the injectors at full squirt! On the inside he’s got it set up with Autometer gauges including speedometer, fuel level, and coolant temperature.
As with all project cars, this one is a not yet done. Actually, it isn’t yet ready for the road. The owner states that while he has a great deal of time and money in the car already it still has several needs. How many needs, you ask? Well, he thinks at a minimum it will need a hood modification to clear engine, some minor body work, paint, wiring, a fuel cell, batteries, and basically everything in between.
Unfortunately without the wiring completed he’s had no way to fire the engine, so it has yet to run in the Mustang. According to his listing though, it “should” all work as all of the mechanical components (starter, fuel systems, etc.) are there and ready. He’s selling the Mustang to make room and provide funds for other projects. If you’re short on cash, not to worry, as he’ll take trades of nice welders, shop tools, or even a Cummins powered pickup truck!
