This little GTO sure looks like it has seen better days. It looks like frostbite from too many harsh Minnesota winters has prevented this ’66 Goat from taching up and ripping up the pavement. The seller claims this is an original 1966 GTO with the 389 mill tucked under the hood and a three speed gearbox on the floor (and perhaps the tri-power set up)?
Years of frostbite have caused a considerable amount of rust to corrode away at this muscle machine. It’s gonna take more than a can of Naval Jelly before this “Pon-Pon” is ready to take on all the gassers at the quarter mile. The rust has devoured portions of the metal, leading to holes in the cockpit floor and portions of the body to disintegrate. It may not be the prettiest GTO we have seen but its far from the worst GTO barn find we have encountered (and it’s a plus that the owner is interested in selling).
Though highly debated, the Goat has long been considered the first production musclecar. She entered service in 1964 when engineers at Pontiac took a Pontiac Le Mans and stuffed it with an oversized 389 cubic inch motor. It was given other performance and racing inspired options such as GTO badges, a Super Turbine 300 automatic transmission, a tri-power set up and a limited slip rear differential.
In 1966 the GTO was given a facelift and had a minor coke-bottle redesign of its body lines. Despite its name being taken from Ferrari, the GTO frequently competed in Super Stock drag racing where it would win on Sunday and sell on Monday. Its gonna take a full nut and bolt restoration to return this GTO to her glory days. Would you consider taking on this project?
