Dave “Big Injun” Anderson Builds a Replica of a GeeTO Tiger Wagon

GeeTOW Wagon

Dave “Big Injun” Anderson is under going the project of building his own version of a GeeTOW Tiger Wagon. He is building this car it to relive part of his childhood. When Anderson was a kid, he loved seeing the GeeTO Tiger race and dreamed one day he’d be behind the wheel.  As a kid the closest he came was riding in the back seat of his parents Pontiac Wagon.   For those who do not know, the GeeTO Tiger was a part of a marketing program in the mid 60’s created by Pontiac Marketing Executive Jim Wangers.

The program involved Pontiac taking two Super Stock GeeTO’s (one white and one black) to match race at a drag strip. One of the GTO’s was driven by a driver in a tiger costume. During the event a lucky fan would have a chance to beat the tiger by getting behind the other GTO, and if they won they would win a prize. These Super Stock cars were towed to the strip by gold Pontiac wagons known as GeeTOW Wagons.

The GeeTO Tiger

The replica GeeTO Tiger

In 2002 the GeeTO Tiger crew (Pontiac Enthusiast Magazine Publisher Dave Anderson, Jim Wangers himself, and Robert Johnson) built a replica of a Tiger Super Stock Car. This replica was modernized with an all aluminum engine and racing TH400 transmission. Anderson’s Wagon will also be modernized, except it will be a restification (aka a restomod) instead of a drag car.

For his project, Anderson has purchased a 1966 Pontiac Tempest Wagon to use for his copy of a 1966 GeeTOW wagon.

The wagon is powered by a godly Pontiac 455 engine that has been built by Pacific Performance Racing. This engine has everything a hot rod should have: Edelbrock racing heads, a Performer RPM intake, and Ross forged pistons. The 455 is bolted to a 4L85E transmission with a stall convertor and a Compushift Controller. Sitting out back is a Moser Engineering 9 inch rear with a Detroit Truetrac posi and 3.70 gears.

The Chassis has Global West Suspension with G-Plus tubular upper & lower control arms both front and rear. It also has Performance coil springs as well as front and rear sway bars. Stopping the car are Stainless Steel Brakes Corporation Tri-Power 4-wheel disc brakes. The car sits on a set of 18” old school retro wheels and are wrapped in BF Goodrich g-Force T/A KDW Tires.

We love the concept of building a modernized GeeTOW tiger wagon. We think it complaints the modern Super Stock car nicely. Hopefully the modern Tiger will be towed to the strip by Anderson’s wagon.
