Design Master Roy Brizio Builds a ’55 Chevy for Himself

Roy Brizio of Roy Brizio Street Rods has a reputation for being one of the best hot rod designers and builders in the industry. And when Roy decides that he needs a new car, you can bet that it is going to be something special! Brizio’s 1955 Chevy 210 Custom Sedan shows that the same meticulous craftsmanship and artistic expression found in each of his clients projects is readily apparent in his own.

Brizio’s new car holds faithfully to design elements that originally came on the vehicle. For example, there have been multiple modifications made to the dashboard. The glove compartment placement, addition of upgraded gauges, deleting the radio and also removing the clock “hump” from the passenger side are major changes.

However, by staying true to the 1950s style of the original vehicle, these modifications blend seamlessly with the classic design elements of the car. Retaining the bench seats and covering them with an iconic two-color tuck and roll upholstery with matching door panels and headliner completes the feel of a vintage hot rod!

Like any self-respecting hot rod, the powertrain and suspension of Roy’s new creation are modified. But unlike many others in our era, switching to the technologically advanced systems of our late-model vehicles would not be done on this project. Old school horsepower and technology will represent when the key is turned on Brizio’s shoebox! Too bad there is no video of the car running!

When you look at this car, it makes you wonder if this is actually the car in the photographs, or an artist rendering of the project. The meticulous fit and finish of the ’55 itself can sometimes be mistaken for artistic interpretation rather than a photographic reflection of reality. Either way, there is no denying that this Brizio creation is truly something special!

Every inch f this cherried-out '55 Chevy is perfect.

Paul Lambert

Paul Lambert is an independent writer who grew up during a time in Southern California car culture when big horsepower and high speed were celebrated above all. He now understands that turning, stopping, appearance and comfort are equal in importance...almost! Paul tries to find something likeable and interesting about anything with wheels and thinks that the people, history, and culture of hot rodding are often as important to the story as the cars and events being featured.
